Health Policy Round-up in the 115th Congress
Health reform proposals in the 115th Congress were the focus of The Alliance webinar on Jan. 10 presented by Katy Spangler, senior vice president, healthy policy from the American Benefits Council. External Link. Opens in new window..
Spangler provided an overview of what has been proposed and what employers should be aware of. While much of this information appears to change daily, Spangler urged employers to speak up now and ask federal lawmakers to protect the tax exclusion for employer-sponsored health benefits.
Spangler said employers should keep track of health policy developments that occur in what is likely to be three-step process for health reform by Congress. These steps are:
- Repealing the ACA.
- Enacting comprehensive tax reform.
- Replacing the ACA.
The Alliance Signs Letter Opposing Limits to Tax Deductibility of Employer-Sponsored Health Benefits
The Alliance has joined with 32 other organizations in signing a letter. External Link. Opens in new window. that asks members of the U.S. Congress not to act on proposals that would cap the individual tax exclusion for employer-provided health care benefits or limit employers’ deductibility of health care expenses.
The letter also asks congressional representatives to repeal the Affordable Care Act’s 40 percent Cadillac Tax on health benefits, which was slated to take effect in 2020.
The American Benefits Council drafted the letter, which was signed by organizations that included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. External Link.
