MADISON, WI. (April 23, 2025) – Gamber-Johnson was presented with a 2025 Healthcare Transformation Award for its innovative efforts to improve healthcare benefits for its employees and their families.
The Healthcare Transformation Award recognizes employers, providers or other organizations that drive meaningful change in the healthcare marketplace, including improving quality, affordability and accessibility. The award is given by The Alliance Board of Directors. The Alliance is a not-for-profit cooperative that works to improve healthcare for employers and their employees.
“If you want to view a company that truly cares about the well-being of its employees, look to Gamber-Johnson,” said Curt Kubiak, President and CEO of The Alliance. “Gamber-Johnson is a prime example for other employers on what’s possible if you commit to a collaborative and employee-first approach to healthcare benefits.”
The company’s innovative approach to employee healthcare has significantly improved care quality while reducing overall costs. In 2020, the company embarked on a mission to transform its healthcare offerings.
“Healthcare costs were skyrocketing, benefits were getting worse, premiums were getting higher, employees were less and less happy. We knew we had to do something to change the tide by switching to self-funding”, said Phillip Blair, Vice President Human Resources at Gamber-Johnson. “It’s about supporting our employees in all facets of wellness.”
Gamber-Johnson partnered with high-quality, low-cost, transparent providers like Anovia and Solstice Health to offer essential services, such as primary care, advanced imaging, specialty care, and a wide range of surgical options. Often, these services are offered at no cost to employees and their families.
Gamber-Johnson also established an onsite clinic available to employees and their families, further increasing access to care. This strategy has saved Gamber-Johnson and its employees over $1 million and created a culture of holistic wellness.
“Over time our healthcare costs have gone down,” said Gautam Malik, CEO at Gamber-Johnson. “That is millions of dollars that is going back into the bottom line. I can invest that into people and continue to gain jobs. It is a successfully deployed strategy that is meaningful and a win-win for the employees and the organization.”
Through transparency and providing employees with clear, actionable information about their healthcare options, Gamber-Johnson has empowered its workforce and optimized healthcare spending, resulting in better health outcomes and a more engaged workforce. In the company’s employee surveys, 95 percent of the workforce expressed high satisfaction with their healthcare benefits.
Beyond improving its own health benefits, Gamber-Johnson has actively contributed to broader healthcare reform. The company has implemented value-based care models through innovative payment reform, provider network design, and benefit plan design and shared its insights with other employers. Additionally, through its participation in Advancing Free Market Healthcare, Gamber-Johnson has helped give employers a voice in health policy legislation, advocating for affordable, transparent, high-quality care.
Gamber-Johnson is a leading supplier of rugged mounting systems that secure mobile communication systems, computers and other electronic equipment in fleet vehicles, public safety vehicles, and other mobility applications. Founded in 1954, Gamber-Johnson is located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
The award was given to Gamber-Johnson at The Alliance Spring Symposium in Madison on April 23, where numerous employers, healthcare professionals and industry leaders gathered to work together to transform healthcare and health benefits.
