Melina Kambitsi, Ph.D., replaces Paul Meyer on National CooperativeRx’s Board of Directors

MADISON, WI (Jan. 21, 2022) ─ The National CooperativeRx Board of Directors has appointed Melina Kambitsi, Ph.D. to replace Paul Meyer on their Board effective Jan. 1, 2022.

Dr. Kambitsi is the senior vice president of business development & strategic marketing at The Alliance and has led the teams responsible for membership growth and retention since 2017. Dr. Kambitsi previously served as chief revenue officer at Network Health in Appleton and Milwaukee where she was responsible for leading sales, underwriting, actuarial services, analytics, and product development for the commercial and Medicare books of business. Previously she served as a sales, marketing, and product development executive in several Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plans. Dr. Kambitsi received her bachelor’s in international studies and her master’s and doctorate degrees in geographic information systems at The Ohio State University.

“National CooperativeRx is an incredibly innovative organization that serves as a trusted advisor for employers by delivering transparency and accountability in the pharmacy benefits world,” said Dr. Kambitsi. “I am passionate about our common mission – to deliver high-quality, affordable benefits to employers and their families – and am privileged to work with an organization that understands their fiduciary responsibility to their members. National CooperativeRx and The Alliance continue to find smarter ways to control the cost of health care while delivering high-quality, affordable benefits to employers and their employees. Although you cannot replace someone like Paul Meyer, I look forward to continuing his stellar work on the Board.”

The National CooperativeRx Board of Directors works with staff to set the direction for the organization, which provides pharmacy benefits to hundreds of self-funded employers and serves as a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative. National CooperativeRx delivers custom pharmacy benefit plans at significant savings for its members and audits 100% of claims to ensure members receive rebate and pricing guarantees.

National CooperativeRx was originally founded in 2003 as WisconsinRx by The Alliance, Fond du Lac Area Businesses on Health, and WEA Trust as a transparent, group-purchasing cooperative to cut costs on pharmacy benefits for its members. The organization quickly became successful and began doing business as National CooperativeRx to reflect its nationwide reach. National CooperativeRx now serves more than 270 member groups and over 400,000 participant lives.

Paul Meyer joined The Alliance in 1996 and served as the director of finance and operations until he became chief operating officer in 2007. As COO, Paul oversees the claims and customer service, finance, MIS, and HR departments. Paul served as a member of National CooperativeRx’s Board of Directors for 19 years and also serves as treasurer of The Alliance Board of Directors. Paul is scheduled to retire from The Alliance in July, 2022.

“I’m proud of National CooperativeRx’s success – as demonstrated by their incredible growth – while serving as a member of their Board for over the past 19 years.” Meyer said. “Melina Kambitsi is an obvious choice to replace me in retirement; her tremendous amount of experience within the insurance industry will prove a valuable asset to the National CooperativeRx board – and to the betterment of all their employer-members.”

The Alliance is owned by 300 employers across the Midwest and remains a trusted, objective partner for employers and their brokers who seek improved access to high-quality health care, contracting with over 32,000 health care providers and doctors in the region.
