MADISON, WI. (Nov. 4, 2025) – With an eye toward growth, The Alliance is bolstering its leadership team.

Mike Roche has been promoted to Vice President of Business Development and Melanie Schoenemann has been hired as Vice President of Business Growth and Member Strategy.

Roche will remain focused on cultivating new business opportunities for The Alliance, while Schoenemann will oversee The Alliance’s broader employer portfolio and manage the organization’s business development and account management teams internally.

The moves aim to support The Alliance’s continued growth in offering self-funded and level funded employee health benefits in the Midwest. Over the past few years, The Alliance membership has nearly doubled, with more than 500 employer-members now part of the cooperative. The Alliance has seen growth among a wide variety of employer types, from school districts to manufacturers.

Schoenemann brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry, including overseeing strategic growth. She has a proven record of building strong partnerships, expanding markets, and leading high-performing teams. Over her career, Schoenemann had stints with Quartz Health Solutions, WEA Trust, M3 Insurance, and Dean Health Plan.

“Joining The Alliance is an incredible opportunity to support our employer-members and help them design benefit strategies that truly work for their employees,” Schoenemann said. “I look forward to building on our strong foundation and driving meaningful impact for our clients.”

Roche, who joined The Alliance in 2015, has a strong background in health benefits and self-funding. He previously served as a regional sales advisor for Digital Benefits Advisors in Madison, Wis., where he managed the health benefits for more than 160 credit union clients across 14 states. Prior to that position, Mike worked at CUNA Mutual Group in their employee benefits division for almost 10 years as an employee benefits sales specialist.

“I am honored to take on this new role and continue helping employers and their teams navigate self-funded health benefits,” Roche said. “The Alliance’s commitment to innovation and high-value healthcare makes it an exciting time to lead business development initiatives.”
