Ilyse Schuman
Ilyse Schuman is senior vice president, health and paid leave policy, at the American Benefits Council. In this role she directs the development and advocacy of the Council’s health policy priorities and leads the Council’s efforts on paid leave. A former top congressional staff member, she served as minority staff director and chief counsel on the HELP Committee. Ilyse previously co-chaired Littler Mendelson’s Workplace Policy Institute, advising on employment and benefits law. She also held leadership roles in the private sector and trade associations. Ilyse holds a B.A. from Tufts University and a J.D. from Georgetown University.

Melissa Duffy
Melissa Duffy, owner of Duffy Communication Strategies, leverages her extensive experience to help healthcare purchasing cooperatives improve the cost and quality of healthcare across the country. She specializes in government relations, public relations, media, healthcare advocacy and cooperatives.
Formerly a lead advisor to the WI State Senate on health policy, Melissa helped pass laws and smooth the regulatory path for common sense and pro-consumer changes to the healthcare system. After leaving the Senate, she worked in the private sector developing and promoting healthcare purchasing cooperatives as a model for consumer support and empowerment.

Jennifer Austin
Jennifer Austin joined The Alliance in 2019 and currently serves as Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, Innovation, and Marketing. In this role, she helps shape the cooperative’s strategic direction while leading efforts in marketing, communications, and innovation. Before joining The Alliance, Jennifer worked at a number of companies in Chicago and Madison, such as Healthgrades, where she focused on marketing and strategy development for hospitals and health systems, including Advocate Healthcare (now Advocate Aurora Health), Augusta University Health, and HCA Healthcare.
Jennifer has a master’s degree in Global Marketing, Communications, and Advertising from Emerson College and a bachelor’s degree in Art and English from The University of Iowa.
